Week 10 Reflection

 


This week's class was all about working with different programs to create a story.  I struggled with creating a story on my own and didn't get very much done within the timeframe.  When I was finally able to get ChatGPT working on my computer I found it easier to get a story written.  As I added to the story it seemed as though it was difficult to get the story that ChatGPT was writing to keep all of the elements while still making sense.  I did not like using New Bing as much to create the story because the program kept messing up so after only one or two prompts the program would stop working for me.  Once I started to use the programs I was able to expand quickly on my original ideas and create a longer story quicker and the AI programs gave me more ideas to elaborate on.  The more I used DALL.E2, the easier it was for me to find pictures to use in my story, but to get some of the pictures I had to try several different prompts before I was able to find something along the lines of what I was looking for.


AI programs can be used in a school setting in many ways.  Older students can be given similar tasks to create stories to expand on or allow them to ask different questions to create more accurate non-fiction stories.  The students can use AI to find answers to different questions they have so that they aren’t completely given free access to websites.  Students can use programs like DALL.E2 to find images for any projects they might be working on or practice using descriptive language to find and compare the images they find.  Giving students open-ended tasks to use these programs will help them use their creativity to see what they can come up with.  Teachers can also use these programs to come up with ideas for lessons and ways to elaborate and improve their lessons.


College students and citizens can use these types of programs morally by being sure to note where their information was found and what programs were used, while also not taking direct quotes from the AI programs but just using them for ideas.

    Your story title page looks adorable! I like your thoughts on the AI programs and how they can be used to spark creativity rather than copying directly from them.

Week 6 Reflection

  I was not in class but I was able to make my food craft at home.  I used some twizzlers, pretzels, goldfish, and marshmallows to make an underwater scene.  All of these ingredients were things that I found in my cupboard and could have easily used a variety of foods.  I used a cookie and twizzler to make an octopus with the helpful input of my 9 year old.  These types of activities can help students with creatively thinking to plan out what they want to create with food as well as giving more opportunities to explore along with other lessons.  Children can work on their fine motor skills as well as giving them a chance to relax while creating with different materials than they are used to.  The activity could be incorporated into other lessons about animals with a focus on vocabulary that go along with the animal or even the habitat that they live in.  This activity could also be used to give examples of food groups or colors and shapes.  S...

Week 14 Reflection

The drama techniques integrated storybook activity went because it was easy to come up with many different times to include narrative pantomime and statue, but it was a little more difficult to include other dramatic techniques such as a person in a mess and artifacts because we had such a short and mostly repetitive story. Working together on google slides made it easy to get input from everyone in the group.  I think that having the pieces displayed for the exhibit at McKay gave us a chance to show off the different types of work we completed and was able to look at the other paintings in the hallways after hanging mine up.  It reminded me of the pictures hanging around schools for their art shows.

Week 3 Reflection

     The concepts from this week's class was about the courage to create art and show it off as it is without worrying about perfection.  The concept of including art in all other areas of the curriculum was discussed by including rock painting in math, literacy, dramatic play, science, and social studies activities.        In order to paint the rocks we were given a purpose for 3 of them while 2 rocks were open-ended choices but we still had to use our own creativity to decide what to paint.  With some of the rocks, I thought more about how I wanted to paint them before I began painting but with some of the rocks, I began painting and just decided in the moment what would be painted.          This activity can be integrated into a classroom in many ways.  Allowing the children to paint the rocks can help them express their creativity as well as having a rock museum for the children to explain their cre...
